Adventures in Solitude Cruise
Special Guest Cruises with author Grant Lawrence

Join award-winning author and broadcaster, Grant Lawrence, for a one-of-a-kind tour of Desolation Sound. Lawrence will lead a day of outings during our cruise to many of the spectacular, hidden locations he wrote about in his best-selling 2010 memoir, "Adventures in Solitude".

Along the way, Grant will share hilarious, intriguing and frightening stories of the local legends that have managed to cling to the shores of the Sound like barnacles. Stories will cover local First Nations lore, the pioneer era, the Age of Aquarius, and modern day. Lawrence's family has owned land in Desolation Sound for over 40 years - few know it better!

Grant will join our cruise from Lund and our "Adventures in Solitude" Desolation Sound tour will take place on Day 1 as we travel from Lund to Homfray Lodge. From Homfray Lodge, we will cruise Desolation Sound to Quadra Island with our captain and on board naturalist. Cruises depart from Lund or Powell River on July 8th and July 29th. Ask about flights from Vancouver....they are only 35 minutes!

Arrive on your own into Lund, BC, gateway to Desolation Sound.
Note: Scheduled airport transfers are offered complimentary from Powell River Airport

Welcome reception and meet the crew of the Pacific Bear as we set off from Lund.

Grant will lead our cruise to many spectacular and hidden locations. We will pass Desolation Sound Provincial Marine Park, a haven for boaters and kayakers with its calm waters and sheltered anchorages. As we leave the boaters behind, we cruise into Homfray Channel, one of the deepest in North America and flanked by towering peaks, including the majestic Mount Denman (1920 m, 6299 ft straight up from the sea). In the late evening, we reach Homfray Lodge nestled in the remote wilderness of Desolation Sound, where we meet the staff and enjoy our meals prepared by the lodge's chef.

Today you may enjoy the rustic charm and authentic warmth of Homfray Lodge. Warm summer temperatures and the meeting of the tides cause the Desolation Sound to have the mildest climate, most abundant sea life and warmest water on the BC Coast, with ocean temperatures reaching up to 24°C (75°F). This peaceful setting allows you to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, vibrant marine life, and the lodge's activities such as kayaks, stand up paddle boards or an eco boat tour to explore the nearby waters.
