It's impossible to capture all the rustic charm and authentic warmth of Homfray Lodge in pictures or words. Visiting Homfray Lodge brings you to the heart of British Columbia’s coastal wilderness paradise, where breathtaking scenery, vibrant marine life and relaxed pace all come together for the perfect pacific coastal experience.
Homfray Lodge is located in Homfray Channel, one of the isolated inlets of globally renowned Desolation Sound, British Columbia. Only reachable by boat or float plane, it's truly an amazing wilderness lodge that allows you to get away from it all.
Desolation Sound falls within the traditional territories of the Klahoose, Tla’amin, and Homalco First Nations. Homfray Channel was named after Robert Homfray, Civil Engineer (b.1824 d.1902). The best account of his exploits is contained in the book, “The Chilcotin War: A Tale of Death and Reprisal”. The tale is compelling; full of the perils and dangers of an attempt to find a better route to the Chilcotin Gold fields via Bute Inlet. Homfray's mission ended abruptly, when the group was captured and held by local First Nations. Fortunately, they were rescued by a chief of the Klahoose people, whose village was in Desolation Sound. Later, Homfray’s canoe and supplies were lost in a logjam. The men salvaged enough tools to build a makeshift raft, which withstood the four-day journey to Bute Inlet. They were eventually rescued by the same Klahoose chief who brought them to his village. He later helped them return to Victoria.
The lodge offers an assortment of accommodation options. We offer spacious, open and private One and Two Bedroom Chalets that sleep up to 6 guests. As well as Lodge Suites, each with a private bathroom, perfect for 2 guests. All Suites and Chalets have ocean views. Our BC Small Ship cruises with stay at Homfray Lodge are available between May and October. If you have a special interest group, wedding, meeting or retreat please feel free to contact us for exclusive use of Homfray Lodge.
Homfray Lodge’s original structures were erected in 2008. Substantial further improvements were added after 2011 including: a new duplicate chlorine water filtration system; environmentally friendly septic system; hydro electric system, thanks to a river that runs through the property, with 24/7 power and backup generator; a massive dock for 250‘ of moorage. In 2017, the lodge was re-imagined as an all-inclusive wilderness destination that included all meals, wine with dinner and complimentary cruise from Lund and Powell River Airport. New activities were added including eco-boat tours, grizzly bear viewings, small ship cruising, morning yoga, and kayaking.
You have to see it for yourself to truly experience the beauty and natural wonder of the area. We absolutely love it at Homfray Lodge and we look forward to sharing it with you!
