At Pacific Coastal Cruises & Tours and Homfray Lodge, we are inspired to connect our guests to nature and authentic coastal experiences. From intimate explorations of Grizzly Bears in their natural habitat, to naturalist-informed coastal cruising and remote all-inclusive lodge wilderness experiences, Pacific Coastal Cruises offers you a chance to inspire our guests to experience Desolation Sound, the Gulf Islands and the amazing wildlife, history and cultures that surround us.

Our season runs from April to October and we offer seasonal positions in lodge and cruise operations. We usually post the new positions around January-February for the following season. Some of our positions would include naturalist guides for our cruises on board the Pacific Bear or lodge operation positions, at Homfray Lodge including, including kitchen, housekeeping, guests services and guides.

Our guides will have a variety of skills, but should have SVOP, Wilderness First Aid, Marine Operators Radio, FoodSafe and Serving it Right and naturalist training. Some specific experience may include land based guided for Grizzly Bear Viewing, Boat based guiding for marine life, whale watching and both cultural and historical interpretation. From Homfray Lodge we also offer Sea Kayaking, SUP, Yoga, Hiking, and some salt water fishing.


Currently Hiring For:

Naturalist / Cruise Director

As the Naturalist/Cruise Director aboard the Pacific Bear you will interpret and share the areas history and wildlife as we transit the Gulf Islands, San Juan Islands, and Desolation Sound.

A love and knowledge of Humpback whales, Transient and Resident Orcas, Sea lions, Harbour Seals, and Grizzly Bears is important as we have almost daily visits with these incredible creatures.

Knowledge of the local indigenous nations and their history is important as we travel their traditional homes and historic landmarks.

Along with acting as our Naturalist your other main task is to over see meal delivery and preparation, as well as attending to other customer service related tasks commonly held by a Cruise Director.

*Although all our meals onboard are prepared ahead of time by our chefs at the lodge, basic plating, reheating, serving, and after meal clean up are part of the daily tasks of our onboard Naturalist/Cruise Director.

Sea time onboard the Pacific Bear is Home Trade Class III and is an excellent stepping stone to earn ones SVMO or 60 Ton Masters certifications.

Qualified applicants will hold or be registered to take the Marine Emergency Duties (MED) Certificate.

Will have a background in, and passion for, customer service and the area and wildlife we travel and encounter.

150 ton or 60 ton Masters (with SVMO)

As a Master 150 ton you will command both the Pacific Bear and the Pride of Victoria.

As a Master 60 ton you will command the Pride of Victoria.

In both roles the ships master is responsible for managing the ships crew, overseeing the overall guest experience, and maintaining the quality and safety of the vessel and her compliment.

Qualified applicants will hold a current 150 ton Masters ticket or a 60 ton Masters ticket with a SVMO endorsement.

Preference given to those applicants with a unrestricted SVMO certificate.

Applicants must have a background in, and passion for, customer service and the area and wildlife we travel and encounter.

150 ton Relief Master - Desolation Sound

Position: Relief Master with Pacific Coastal Cruises

Dates: 7 to 10 days per month (June, July, August)

Location: Homfray Lodge, Desolation Sound B.C.

Description:Join Pacific Coastal Cruises and Tours this summer working 7 to 10 days per month in arguably the most prestigious waters of the BC coast.

As Master of the Pacific Bear and the Pride of Victoria you will transport guests during the day and stay dockside at lodges and resorts along the coast by night.

Comfortable crew accommodations, great meals, and daily interactions with Humpbacks, Orca, and Grizzly Bears, make this a working holiday opportunity not to be missed.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will hold a valid 150 ton masters certificate and valid Marine Medical certificate. Preference given to applicants holding unrestricted SVMO certification and/or strong backgrounds in the customer service industry.

Applicants must have experience operating single and twin screw vessels up to 60 feet in length. Applicants must also have a very strong passion for customer service. As the Master of both our vessels you will represent Pacific Coastal Cruises and be one of the primary people responsible for helping to create and shape our guests experience.

MED/SVMO Relief - Desolation Sound

Position: Relief Deckhand/SVMO with Pacific Coastal Cruises

Dates: 7 to 10 days per month (June, July, August)

Location: Homfray Lodge, Desolation Sound B.C

Description:Join Pacific Coastal Cruises and Tours this summer working 7 to 10 days per month in arguably the most prestigious waters of the BC coast.

As crew aboard the Pacific Bear and the Pride of Victoria you will transport guests during the day and stay dockside at lodges and resorts along the coast by night.

Comfortable crew accommodations, great meals, and daily interactions with Humpbacks, Orca, and Grizzly Bears, make this a working holiday opportunity not to be missed.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will hold a valid Marine Emergency Duties certificate of the valid STCW equivalent. Preference given to applicants holding unrestricted SVMO certification and/or strong backgrounds in the customer service industry.

Applicants must have a very strong passion for customer service. As crew aboard both our vessels you will represent Pacific Coastal Cruises and be responsible for helping to create and shape our guests experience.
